The most interesting part of this post was toward the end when you talk about immediate feedback. 

The bennefit that real-time response brings is unmatched. This is why businesses should be passionate about - and consider more open source type endevours. They should also be sure to include customers as part of a community (rather than just a line on a balance sheet). Many legendary executives are known to drop in to their stores across the country and learn from front-line employees and customers. 

More elaborate examples are provided in a book I just finished called "Mavericks at Work." Those interested in such topics should pick it up - or at least skim it next time you're in the bookstore.
